5 Ingredients
- 200 gFlour (Type 405)
- 2 tspBaking powder
- A pinchSalt
- 180 gyogurt (3.5% fat)
- 1 tspOlive oil
Equipment
- A mixing bowl
- A scale or measuring spoons
- Wooden spoon or spatula
- Rolling pin
- Non-stick frying pan or cast iron skillet
- Kitchen towel (to keep the pita breads warm)
Preparation
- Mix Dry Ingredients
In your mixing bowl, add 200g of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix these together until well combined. - Add Yogurt and Olive Oil
To the dry ingredients, add 180g of yogurt and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Use your wooden spoon or spatula to mix everything together until it starts to form a dough. - Knead the Dough
Once the dough starts to come together, transfer it onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as you knead. - Rest the Dough
Place the dough back in the bowl and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax, making the dough easier to roll out. - Divide and Roll
After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized portions. The number of portions depends on how large or small you want your pitas to be. On a floured surface, roll out each portion into a circle about 7-8 mm thick. - Cook the Pita
Heat your non-stick frying pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Place one rolled-out dough circle in the pan. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles start to form on the surface. Flip it over and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side. The pita should puff up, creating the pocket. Wrap the cooked pita in a kitchen towel to keep it warm while you cook the rest. - Serve and Enjoy
Your homemade pita bread is ready to be served. Enjoy it with your favorite dips, fillings, or as a side to any meal.
Congratulations! You've just made your own delicious pita bread at home. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and the wonderful flavors it brings to your table.
